WASHINGTON (AP) — 2009 will have to wait just one more second.
The world’s timekeepers are adding a leap second to the last day of the year. It’s because the Earth is slowing down just a bit, requiring the timekeepers to add an extra second to their atomic clocks to stay in tune with the rotation.
